My name is Ian Smith. I have been involved in Oracle licensing for nearly 20 years. I have worked both inside Oracle and outside Oracle. My most recent position was as a senior director at Rocela. This is my "third move" within the Oracle economy.

My specialist subject area is in the commercial aspects of Oracle licensing. I have a deep knowledge of Oracle licensing practices and understand their culture and psyche. I offer Oracle advice and guidance for many different situations. I have a very creative way of solving issues, normally resulting in significant savings for my clients. Savings are measured as direct cost reduction, spending less on procurement, avoiding excessive costs when faced with non-compliance issues and simply getting greater value for your investment.

Oracle licensing is complex. Understanding its finer details and idiosyncrasies is not easy. There are less and less people, even inside Oracle who possess the required skills, particularly when it comes to knowledge of the legacy products, licensing practices and contracts. My clients and indeed my Oracle contacts would no doubt admit to my capability and credentials in this complex area.

Using my expertise and deep knowledge helps my client's optimise their investment in Oracle software, feel confident with their compliance position and improve their relationship with Oracle.

I can engage directly with Oracle customers or with organisations providing services and/or products to their Oracle customers. I can also advise on and recommend specialist providers to complement my own service offerings.
